"Life is like a camera, just focus on what's important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don't work out, just take another shot."

About Me

My name is Lisa Marie Serna, and I am twenty-two years old. If I could describe myself in one word it would be passionate, mostly because I think that anything someone does should be done and driven by passion to give his or her total best. I am not only passionate about photography but also about people, serving my community, and expressing myself through poetry. The concept of life in general pushes me into capturing life in photos. It may sound like cliché, “to capture moments,” but when you have been at the point of giving up on life and surviving I have truly learned to appreciate the little things. Some of my biggest dreams include publishing a book based on what I have had to overcome in hopes that it will help young men and women to push forward. Other goals include publishing a book of poems and working successfully with my own photography business that also allows me to travel nation wide and across the world. I have been to Orlando, Florida; Biloxi, Gulfport, Ocean Springs and Saucier, Mississippi, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Eagle Pass, and Houston, TX; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Beijing, Guangxi, and Hengyang, China. I want to see more, places near and far. I want to visit Australia, New York City, Yosemite, Canada and many other places with my camera at hand and a journal to write about what I have seen, tasted and felt. We all have stories and life perspectives and I want to share mine with others. I have captured birth, weddings and funerals. Every story is a masterpiece from where we began to where we will end.

"While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.”

Dorothea Lange

What Digital Media Means to Me

Digital media is an outlet for expression. It allows me to get a point across, to cause my viewer to feel something, with photography, without an explanation. Digital media is visual poetry for the eyes to take in and the mind or heart to understand. I love that it is diverse and has a variety that appeal to different people based on their taste.

Project 2: Progreso, TX

Progreso, Tx used to be the city I would visit every Sunday for church. I grew up in the border town of Los Indios, TX. I lived in Edinburg, TX for two years trying to escape the border city life and then, after getting married, I moved to Progreso, TX. Progreso is a city of humble beginings and a city that has gained people who have big dreams for what the city can do. This is a movement. We are Progreso, TX not just the city before Mexico and we are not Mexico. Come see us sometime.

Project 3: Stop Motion: Circle of Love

Nothing is new under the sun. We can only take what we have learned and do better the next time around. You never get used to the pain, you also never get used to the feeling of new love in bloom. You never get used to the tragedy life hands us, we just embrace for impact. Just as you must with new projects. This is my first stop motion video and it was a different technique from shooting photographs or video.
